A 24-year-old woman has been charged with multiple offences after a store was robbed and someone set off bear spray at police in downtown Vancouver Saturday.
The Vancouver Police Department claims a woman attacked a store attendant with bear spray around 3:30 p.m. on Granville Street near West Georgia Street.
Police say when she left the store, police confronted her on the sidewalk nearby, which is when she is said to have sprayed two officers with bear spray, affecting some pedestrians.
“This was a violent and volatile situation created by a motivated suspect, but resolved by the calm and courageous actions of our officers,” Sgt. Steve Addison said.
Police claim the woman pulled out a gun and pointed it at the officers before being arrested.
Chauntelle Gelink has now been charged with robbery, possession of a weapon, assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, and assaulting peace officers in connection with the incident.
She is set to appear in court on Jan. 25.
None of the allegations have been proved in court.
