Vancouver firefighters called to Kitsilano

Fire crews were quick to put out flames in Vancouver’s Kitsilano neighbourhood Friday morning.

Vancouver Fire Rescue Services says the fire was in a detached garage in the area just west of Macdonald Street and West Broadway.

Assistant Fire Chief Keith Stewart tells CityNews no one was in the garage at the time, though two people were in the adjacent home.

“Fire’s out, we’re just checking for hot spots,” he explained just after 11:30 a.m.

He says the response was quick, given the proximity of the fire to the fire hall.

It’s unclear what caused the fire.

Callers reported seeing a thick column of smoke towering over the neighbourhood. The smoke was visible from the downtown area, as well as other parts of the region.
