A snowfall warning has been issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) for a stretch of the highway between Hope and Merritt.

The weather agency says a frontal system will bring heavy snow overnight Friday and ease off on Saturday morning. About 15 centimetres is expected to fall.
“Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow,” the advisory said.
Drivers on the highway are already required to have winter tires on their vehicles as per provincial law. That enforcement remains in place until Apr. 30.
The snow expected on the mountain highway comes as B.C.’s South Coast is under a wind warning, with gusts of up to 90 kilometres per hour expected in Metro Vancouver on Friday.
