Fundraiser set up for family of North Vancouver fatal house fire

Friends of the North Vancouver family who were tragically affected by a house fire have set up a fundraiser to support the surviving members through their grief, as a father and his daughter died early Thursday morning.

Robert (Bob) Fearnley, 69, and his daughter Gayle, 29, tragically died in the blaze that broke out just after 3 a.m. on Delbrooke Avenue.

North Vancouver RCMP says “several” family members were able to escape the flames before the house became fully engulfed and were rushed to the hospital. As of Thursday, police say they are in stable condition.

A self-described long-term family friend has set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for Via Fearnley, and her son, Paolo.

“This tragic house fire has not only left a hole where their home once was, but in their hearts too; taking away all their precious belongings, clothes, essentials and leaving Via and Paolo displaced,” organizer Clarissa Hedley wrote.

“The Fearnely family is so thankful for everyone’s generosity and kindness.”

Hedley writes the Fearnley family is looking for places to stay in North Vancouver, as their home has become uninhabitable.

As of publication, the GoFundMe has raised just over $1,400, with a target of $10,000.

One donor who says they were childhood best friends with Gayle, says they’ll always remember the good times and memories they shared together.

“You were a bright, talented and creative soul. Rest in peace, Gayle and Bob Fearnley,” they wrote.
