After being cancelled for three years in a row because of the pandemic, organizers say the annual Surrey Khalsa Day Vaisakhi Parade will be back this year.
In a news release from event organizers, the group says that more than half a million people are expected to crowd the streets for the colourful event.
“After having to cancel the parade and the other weekend celebrations for the past three years, we know that the community locally in B.C. as well as guests who travel from as far away as across the U.S., Europe, and Australia will be thrilled to hear that the 2023 Surrey Khalsa Day Vaisakhi Parade is definitely back on,” Gurdwara Sahib Dasmesh Darbar President Gurdeep Singh Samra said in a release.
Over 2,500 people are set to participate in the procession, in what the group calls the “largest parade in the world.”
The parade is set to happen on April 22 to mark Vaisakhi Day, “a day that marks the new year,” the parade’s website reads.
In addition to the parade, it adds that there will also be hundreds of booths dotted along the route that may also have free snacks and treats.
“We are expecting significant crowds to gather to celebrate this important event in the Sikh calendar, and we look forward to welcoming people of all ages and ethnicities to celebrate along with us at this free, family-friendly event,” Samra said.
