Duncan, B.C. doctor found guilty of providing drugs to employee, using hypnosis

A doctor from Duncan, B.C. is receiving some discipline after being found guilty of using hypnosis and providing drugs to an employee.

In a disciplinary notice, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC (CPSBC) says it downgraded Dr. Paul Michael Harris’ registration after he was found guilty.

The notice says his admitted and acknowledged actions took place between October 2020 and April 2021.

“He engaged in unprofessional conduct by prescribing medication to an employee without documenting patient-physician encounters, and using non-conventional therapies, specifically hypnosis, outside of an office setting. In addition, he participated in the use of non-approved substances, specifically psilocybin and MDMA, which were administered by a non-physician as a form of therapy.

As part of his registration downgrade, Harris is no longer allowed to provide medical care to anyone outside of his patients.

The CPSBC says Harris has consented to refraining from “the use of non-conventional therapies, specifically hypnosis, outside of an office setting.” It adds Harris’ conduct went against CPSBC practice standards.

This is the second breach of CPSBC practice standards to recive disciplinary action this year.
