B.C. Highway 99 closure planned at Steveston Interchange for construction

By Maria Vinca and Hana Mae Nassar

A section of Highway 99 in Richmond at the Steveston Interchange will be closed for several hours Monday night through to Tuesday morning.

The province says the closure will begin at 11 p.m. Monday “to allow crews to relocate Telus lines” ahead of “interchange construction.”

The closure is expected to last until about 5 a.m. Tuesday.

Traffic will be detoured through that time “up and over the existing on- and off-ramps,” the province said Monday, adding traffic may be disrupted on these ramps throughout the night.

“Access for emergency responders, residents and businesses will be maintained throughout the work.”

Telus line relocation work will also see lane closures along the west side of Steveston Highway between 8 p.m. Tuesday and 5 a.m. Wednesday.

The Steveston Interchange Project is part of improvement work along the Highway 99 corridor making way for the Massey Tunnel replacement. The new interchange is slated to open in 2025.
