Pattullo Bridge to be closed over Easter weekend

Drivers beware: TransLink has announced the Pattullo Bridge will be closed to vehicle traffic in both directions over the Easter long weekend.
The transit authority, which maintains the crossing between New Westminster and Surrey, says the closure is needed to allow for work as part of the bridge replacement project.
The closure is set to begin on April 6 at 10 p.m. and last until April 11 at 5 a.m.
The work will be conducted by the B.C. government and will include things like “soil densification activities, paving, and relocation of the seismic warning system.”
“The warning system will be temporarily disconnected during this time and must be completed with no traffic on the bridge, to ensure the safety of motorists,” TransLink writes.

The authority adds it will also be conducting bridge work during the closure. That includes relocating signage, painting lines, patching concrete, and various inspection work.
While the Pattullo will be closed to vehicle traffic, TransLink says it will remain open to pedestrians, cyclists, and first responders.
You can take the Port Mann or Alex Fraser bridges as alternate routes throughout the closure.
TransLink says the N19 NightBus will be affected by the long-weekend closure, though it notes the bus will take the Alex Fraser and Queensborough bridges during that time. Transit users are being asked to factor in “up to 30 minutes of additional travel time” on this route.
The Pattullo Bridge Replacement Project will see a new four-lane crossing once it’s complete. The province says the new bridge will include dedicated, separated pedestrian and cycling lanes on both sides, as well as “better connections to, from and near the bridge.”

It is slated to open next year. The province says the old bridge will be removed once the new open is open.
