Coquihalla Highway reopened between Merritt and Hope

The Coquihalla Highway has been reopened between Hope and Merritt.

According to DriveBC, vehicle incidents such as reports of spun-out commercial vehicles had caused the road to close.

As of 3 a.m., DriveBC announced the highway was fully clear and reopened.

Environment Canada issued a winter storm warning for the area, as there was moderate to heavy snow spreading to the Coquihalla Highway.

“Freezing levels are expected to remain below summit level through the event. Moderate to heavy snowfall rates will persist much of the day and evening,” the storm warning read.

The Coquihalla was closed for around nine hours.
