Vancouver to Dubai direct flights coming this fall

Those wishing to visit Dubai and other Middle East destinations from Vancouver will have an easier time getting there starting this fall.

Air Canada has announced it will begin a four-flight-a-week schedule between the Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and Dubai this October, with connections to other countries in the Middle East. The airline says the new service will complement the existing direct flights from Toronto to Dubai.

The flights will also be “built conveniently” to connect with places in Alberta and the western United States via Vancouver.

Walt Judas, president and CEO of the Tourism Industry Association of British Columbia, says he’s looking forward to welcoming more people from the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

“With this new route, British Columbia will be connected to a significant market that can only benefit the province’s visitor economy considering the UAE ranks fifth in the world in terms of outbound expenditures on travel and tourism according to the UNWTO (World Tourism Organization),” he said in a statement.

Brigitte Anderson, president and CEO of the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade, also envisions the new flights benefitting the region.

“Connecting Vancouver directly with more destinations brings us closer, drives innovation, and encourages growth in our interconnected world. As such, the investment by Air Canada in this new route will certainly contribute positively to our region,” she said.

The new routes will come into effect on Oct. 28.
