One person is dead and another is hurt after an avalanche in Lake Louise Saturday afternoon.
According to Avalanche Canada, “a skier-triggered avalanche occurred in a closed area within the Lake Louise ski resort.”
Lake Louise Ski Resort says it was called around 2:20 p.m. about the incident that happened in the West Bowl.
It says Parks Canada, EMS, and a rescue team were called in.
“Upon arriving on scene it was determined that a group of three entered the closed area and triggered a size 3 avalanche,” the release reads.
Two people were caught in the slide, Avalanche Canada notes, one person was “fully buried and did not survive,” whereas the other was partially buried.
Lake Louise Ski Resort says another person was also there, and that all three were not “wearing avalanche safety equipment.”
“The avalanche was reported to be 200 m wide and 550 m long with a crown depth of 40-50 cm,” Avalanche Canada notes.
