Stranger Things: The Experience comes to Canada

By Shawn Ayers

Fans of the Netflix show Stranger Things can now have a seemingly supernatural immersive experience, as a new event has launched in Canada for the first time.

Stranger Things: The Experience kicked off in Toronto in March, and the opening weekend saw more than 3,000 guests attend.

“Fans are thrown into a world of supernatural mystery, enduring friendships, and ‘80s nostalgia in an atmospheric celebration of the show’s unique universe,” a news release from Fever, a live-entertainment discovery platform that paired up with Netflix for the event, reads.

General Manager George Anthony says guests who come will be led through some familiar, and perilous, sites.

“You get to walk through them, and you get to touch them, potentially meet some of the favourite characters of the show and, together, you guys will fight the demons inside Hawkins Lab, and hopefully, make your way to The Upside,” he said.

But it won’t just be a re-run of what has already aired.

“This brand new storyline, developed exclusively with the show’s creators, (the Duffer Brothers) propels guests into a parallel universe where they must run the gauntlet of terrors lurking in the dark and unlock their secret powers to help save the town. With the gang’s hometown on the line, there’s room in Hawkins for heroes of all ages (5+) to work together to save the day,” the release reads.

Anthony says the opening weekend in Canada was a huge success and hopes to tour the experience across the country.

“We are starting here in Toronto, and you never know, a rift may actually open up in Vancouver at some point in time,” he said.

He adds that although the show tours, they hire local actors to be involved.

“We hire all of our actors locally,” he said. “So we have a lot of Canadians that are performing certain roles throughout this experience.”

The event runs most days and the immersive experience takes 45 minutes to complete before fans can spend time exploring.

Fans looking to get tickets for the event can grab them online.
