Langley police looking for serial groping suspect

Police in Langley are asking for the public’s help in finding a person responsible for a series of groping incidents in that area in the last few weeks.

The Langley RCMP says since April 20, officers have responded to three separate reports of a stranger approaching women from behind and “inappropriately touching them.”

Police say the first incident happened on April 20 just before 8 a.m. in the area of 201 Street and 64 Avenue in the township’s Willowbrook neighbourhood.

The second happened on April 25 at around 7:40 a.m. near 199A Street and 96 Avenue in the township’s Walnut Grove neighbourhood. The third, on May 4, happened just after 8:40 a.m. in the area of 200 Street and 64 Avenue, again in the township’s Willowbrook neighbourhood.

“In all three incidents, each of the victims either screamed or pushed the suspect away and then reported the incident to police right away,” the Langley RCMP said in a statement.

These alleged groping incidents come as other police forces across the Lower Mainland also search for sexual assault suspects.

Police in Vancouver, Coquitlam, and Abbotsford have all reported incidents this month of men groping or exposing themselves to women in public.

Mounties say the Langley investigation has now been taken over by the detachment’s General Investigation Section.

“These three victims did everything right by protecting themselves and reporting the incidents to police right away,” said Corp. Craig van Herk. “We are working at identifying the suspect but also want to encourage the public to report similar incidents to police as soon as possible”.

Police are urging anyone with information about these incidents to come forward to police and contact the Langley RCMP at 604 532-3200.
