Langley issues flood advisory for some properties

The Township of Langley says some properties have been put under a flood advisory because a flood gauge on the Fraser River has reached more than five metres.

Those areas are Northwest Langley, Glen Valley and Fort Langley.

The municipality says river levels are continuing to rise.

“River levels are rising and expected to continue to rise. Being near fast flowing bodies of water can be dangerous. Stay clear and avoid potentially unstable riverbanks. Avoid recreational activities such as fishing, swimming, boating or hiking near high streamflow rivers or streams,” the township’s website reads

At this time there are no evacuation orders in place, but that could change.

Residents are encouraged to have a plan for where they could stay if an evacuation order is issued, along with creating an emergency kit that includes a few basic supplies.

People are also being advised to avoid recreational activities like fishing and swimming near high stream flow rivers and streams.

Meantime, much of Metro Vancouver and the Lower Mainland are under high streamflow advisories. This is due to rapid snowmelt seen across the province, which has caused flooding in parts of B.C. already this spring.
