1 dead after car crushed by dump truck in Langley collision

Mounties in Langley say one person was killed in a crash just after 5 p.m. Wednesday evening, shutting down part of 16th Avenue.

Police say three vehicles were involved — two commercial trucks and a car, adding all three were travelling eastbound.

A photo of the collision shared with CityNews showed a dump truck on the back of a small silver car.

“Members responded as well and were able to confirm rather quickly that it was a fatal collision, where sadly the driver of the private vehicle died at the scene,” said Sgt. Kirby Adams.

Adams adds the two commercial truck drivers remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Neither of the truck drivers were hurt.

Adams says multiple specialized RCMP units are investigating the collision alongside the BC Coroner’s Service

In a tweet, Forensic Collision Reconstructionist Cpl. Dave Noon says people should “expect significant delays in the surrounding area while we conduct our investigation.”

Adams tells CityNews that 16th Avenue will remain closed between 200th Street and 208th Street until further notice.

“16th Avenue is a very busy street for commercial heavy equipment, so traffic has been affected heavily in that area,” he said.

B.C. Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) tells CityNews it responded with two units just after 5 p.m. as well.
