A man in his 20s drowned in North Vancouver’s Rice Lake Saturday afternoon, according to the North Vancouver RCMP.
Chief Dwayne Derban with the District of North Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services says crews were called to the lake around 3:30 p.m.
When the officers arrived, Derban says they spotted three people on a rock about 100 metres from the shore.

“They quickly swam out with PFDs (personal flotation devices) to the rock and found one adult male who had been submerged for one or two minutes and was having difficulties,” he said.
“They put the lifejacket on that person and towed him back to shore where they commenced trying to revive him, and they were unsuccessful.”
Derban adds that Rice Lake is not a swimming lake, and impairment is not considered to be a factor at this time.
