Missing Australian hiker found dead near Kimberley, B.C.

Mounties in Kimberley B.C. say an Australian hiker, who was reported missing in the East Kootenay region last weekend, has been found dead.

Through a Facebook post, relatives of the hiker have identified the woman as 25-year-old Julia-Mary Lane, who is said to have been visiting the region for a week to hike.

Police say Lane’s roommate contacted the Kimberley RCMP after not hearing from her for a day.

Alongside police dogs and search and rescue teams, police used drones to conduct the search.

Police found Lane’s vehicle near Bear Lake, and say they eventually found her deceased.

Mounties say they are continuing to work with the BC Coroner Service in the investigation.
