Teens charged in New Westminster SkyTrain stabbing

Two teens have been charged after a man was stabbed and a woman was assaulted in New Westminster earlier this year.

Police say the pair was hurt by a “group of youths” they didn’t know at the Columbia SkyTrain Station the night of April 10.

“This was a senseless and violent incident that left a man with significant injuries,” said Sgt. Andrew Leaver. “It’s concerning to see the ages of these suspects and we’re hopeful they realize the severity of their actions and make better decisions in the future.”

According to investigators, suspects were eventually identified and, several months later, a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old were arrested.

Neither person can be named per the Youth Criminal Justice Act, though police say they are facing charges related to aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, and robbery.

Police say one suspect has been released pending a court appearance, while another remains in custody.
