Burnaby massage therapist facing sexual misconduct allegations

A massage therapist in Burnaby can no longer provide women therapeutic services while he is facing sexual misconduct allegations.

In a notice of extraordinary action, the College of Massage Therapists of British Columbia (CMTBC) says the restrictions come after a patient submitted a complaint that the therapist engaged “in non-therapeutic touching of sensitive areas of the Patient’s body” in April.

Due to the serious nature of the allegations, an inquiry committee issued an interim order to help keep the public safe.

The CMTBC says Yifu (George) Qiu must not treat women, and also post an online notice that includes a pre-written statement that includes the prohibition.

Additionally, the CMTBC says a printed version of the notice must be displayed in both English and Chinese in rooms where he provides treatment.

Every Friday by 6 p.m., the CMTBC adds he must submit his patient calendar, including the contact information and names of the patients that he treated that week.

Random on-site audits of his practice will also be conducted by an inspector, the CMTBC notes.

The CMTBC notes that these are potentially temporary measures while the investigation occurs and adds a disciplinary hearing may happen.
