Homicide investigators called to B.C.’s Sunshine Coast

Homicide investigators have been called to B.C.’s Sunshine Coast after a man was found shot in Halfmoon Bay early Thursday morning.

According to the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT), the Sunshine Coast RCMP was called to Birch Way off the Sunshine Coast Highway just after 3:30 a.m. for reports of a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from gunshot wounds who died at the scene. Police say a suspect has been identified and has been taken into custody.

IHIT says it is hoping to speak with anyone who saw what happened as they look to identify the victim.

“We believe this is an isolated incident and there is no continuing risk to public safety,” said Const. Esther Tupper.

Anyone who was in the area of Birch Way between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. Thursday is asked to contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca
