Police are confirming that a 28-year-old man has died after a “serious” collision in downtown Vancouver Thursday morning.
The Vancouver Police Department says a blue Honda Accord was stopped at a red light on West Georgia and Burrard streets around 3 a.m. when the driver of a white Plymouth Voyager drove into the back of the Honda.
Police say the mini-van caught on fire, and the driver had to be “extracted” from the vehicle. The driver and one passenger of the Honda were seriously hurt and taken to hospital.
The second passenger died from his injuries at the scene, the VPD says.

Police had the intersection shut down for almost seven hours. It reopened just before 10 a.m.
In footage posted to social media just before 4 a.m., the white mini-van looks to have come to a stop and mounted the sidewalk. Multiple Vancouver Fire Rescue Services crews were also on scene.
“Although the investigation is still in its early stages, it is believed speed and impaired driving contributed to the crash,” Const. Tania Visintin said in a statement. “The 34-year-old suspect, driving the van, was taken to hospital for serious injuries. The investigation is ongoing.”
