Surrey crash leaves 2 dead, 1 critically hurt: RCMP

Mounties in Surrey say two people have died from their injuries following an early morning crash.

The Surrey RCMP says one person remains in critical condition at the hospital, and notes another person sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

This comes after officers were called to the area of 176 Street (Highway 15) around 2:45 a.m.

“A Volkswagen Golf with a single occupant was northbound on 176 Street past 32 Avenue, when it collided with a Hyundai sedan with a driver and three passengers, that was also northbound. Both vehicles were knocked from the roadway into a water-filled ditch on the east side of the roadway,” a news release reads.

The driver of the Volkswagen was detained, and police say an initial investigation indicates that speed and alcohol may be contributing factors.

Police didn’t say if the driver of the Volkswagon is facing any charges.

Police are asking anyone with information or dash cam footage to call 604-599-0502 and quote file number 2023-104042.

Editor’s note: A previous version of this article stated that the fourth occupant of the Hyundai was unhurt, however, they sustained non-life-threatening injuries. It has since been updated.
