Canada Day events around the Lower Mainland

Canadians are gearing up to celebrate Canada Day on Saturday, and there is no shortage of things to do as virtually every Lower Mainland municipality is hosting an event of some description.
Some events will run the whole day, some are just in the mornings, while some are just in the evening.
There will be live music, a myriad of food trucks, sports tournaments, fireworks, light shows, and even a watermelon eating contest.
Here’s what’s happening in every Lower Mainland municipality this July 1.
Abbotsford
Abbotsford will be home to a day full of festivities at the Abbotsford Exhibition Park. Starting at 8 a.m. with a flea market, the day will also feature a parade, a full slate of musical performers, food trucks, and a laser light show “finale” at 10 p.m. You can find more information here.
Burnaby
There are a few events taking place in Burnaby that can keep you busy for the whole day. An event at the Burnaby Village Museum will run from 11 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. It will feature multicultural family entertainment, educational demonstrations, face painting for children, and cupcakes. Chilliwack
Saturday evening will see a Canada Day celebration in Chilliwack at Townsend Park. It will feature live music, food trucks, a kids’ zone, and displays from local businesses. It will run from 5 p.m until 10:30 p.m. You can find more information here.
Coquitlam
Coquitlam will be hosting a full-day event for Canada’s birthday. It will take place at Town Centre Park from 12 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. It will feature games, food stands, activities, multicultural fixtures, and a slew of musical performances, all capped off by a fireworks show at Lafarge Lake. Delta
The City of Delta will be holding a handful of events that span the entire day. Festivities will take place at Diefenbaker Park from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m., Kirkland House from 12 p.m. until 4 p.m., and at Chalmers Park from 5:30 p.m. until 10 p.m. All of the events will feature family-friendly activities and are free to attend. Langley
In the City of Langley, There will be an afternoon event at Spirit Square. The free family event will feature games, live music, a beer garden, carnival games and a charity barbecue. The event will take place from 12 p.m. until 4 p.m. You can find more information here.
Langley Township
In the Township of Langley, there are a couple of family-friendly events taking place in the afternoon.
At the Aldergrove Athletic Park, there will be entertainment, magicians, a Bollywood dance performance, mini golf and food trucks. It will run from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. You can find more information here.
At Fort Langley, a similar event will take place from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. It will feature face painting, balloons, food, live music, and a scavenger hunt. You can find more information here.
Maple Ridge
In Maple Ridge, Memorial Peace Park will be home to an afternoon-long event. It will feature three stages for live performances, a kids’ zone, food trucks, a beer garden, a rock wall, and a three-on-three basketball tournament. It will run from 12 p.m. until 6 p.m. You can find more information here.
New Westminster
In B.C.’s first capital city, there will be an afternoon-long event at Westminster Pier Park from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. It will feature food trucks, live music, Indigenous art displays, and a “circus zone.” There will also be a family-friendly drop-in event at the Queensborough Community Centre from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. You can find more information on both events here.
North Vancouver
In North Vancouver, the Shipyards will see an event hosted by the Rotary Club of Lions Gate. The festival will run from 11:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. It will see art displays, live entertainment, family-friendly activities, and food vendors. You can find more information here.
Pitt Meadows
There will be some morning festivities in Pitt Meadows. Starting at 9 a.m., the Pitt Meadows Family Recreation Centre will host an event beginning with a pancake breakfast. It will also feature live music, a magician, food trucks, a watermelon eating contest, and a vintage vehicle show. You can find more information here.
Port Coquitlam
Saturday afternoon will be a busy one in Port Coquitlam, with a Canada Day celebration taking place at Castle Park beginning at 12 p.m. It will feature musical performances, including from headliners Chad Brownlee and Big Sugar. There will also be a family fun zone, games, a sensory-friendly quiet zone, food vendors, a beer garden, and a fireworks show. You can find more information here.
Port Moody
In Port Moody, the Golden Spikes Festival is the main Canada Day event of note. It will begin at 11 a.m. at Rocky Point Park and will feature live performances, an “apply to be mayor for the day” stand for kids, Food vendors, a beer tent, and a headline show from the band Honeymoon Suite. Richmond
In Richmond, the iconic Steveston area will host its 76th annual Salmon Festival. The all-ages event runs from 9:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. and will feature a parade, kids’ activities, cultural shows, and food. After that, there will be fireworks at Imperial Landing at 10:15 p.m. You can find more information here.
Surrey
Surrey will be hosting its annual Canada Day event that will run for the majority of the day. Taking place at the Bill Reid Millennium Amphitheatre in Cloverdale, the event will feature a kids’ zone, an Indigenous village, amusement rides, food trucks, and a beer garden. Vancouver
There are a handful of events taking place around Vancouver for Canada Day, from daytime family fun to nighttime festivities.
On the University of British Columbia Endowment Lands, the Westbrook Community Centre is holding an all-ages event. It will feature live music, street hockey, and food. It begins at 11 a.m. and wraps up at 2 p.m. You can find more information here.
Also taking place around the same time frame is a celebration at Kerrisdale Community Centre. Running from 11:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m., the all-ages event will have a barbecue, face painting, crafts, and live music at Centennial Park. The event is free to attend. You can find more information here.
What could be considered the “headliner” Canada Day event in the city will take place at Canada Place. The event, running from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., will see five city blocks filled with food, activities, a kids’ zone, and musical performers. However, there will not be a fireworks performance. Elsewhere in the city, there will be a slate of activities at the Kitsilano Showboat. The event will feature entertainment, cake, games, and an art market. It will run from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. You can find more information here.
For adults, there will be a 19+ party in the city’s south end at Shaughnessy Street Park. The “Sunwave Canada Day” event will run from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m. and includes a full slate of performers and a full bar, it is also pet-friendly. You can find more information here.
That same evening, a late-night party will take place in Olympic Village at The Birdhouse bar. Indigenous run, the party will feature all-Indigenous drag performers and DJs beginning at 9 p.m. You can find more information here.
White Rock
In White Rock, there will be a myriad of events taking place throughout the day. Canada Day by the Bay, hosted by the South Surrey-White Rock Chamber of Commerce, will see events at Memorial Park, Bayview Park, White Rock, and West Beach from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. Things will get started with a pancake breakfast, then a vendor market, live performances throughout the day, and then will be capped off with a fireworks show at 10:15 p.m. You can find more information here.

There will be a Canada Day celebration at John Lawson Park in West Vancouver running from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. The event will kick off with a citizenship ceremony, and will also feature a kids’ zone, food vendors, and musical performances. You can find more information here.
