Third person dies of injuries following Surrey crash: RCMP

Mounties in Surrey say another person has died of their injuries following an early morning collision on Sunday.

The Surrey RCMP announced Sunday afternoon that two other people had also died of their injuries. Police didn’t note the condition of the fourth occupant, but previously said they had non-life-threatening injuries.

This comes after officers were called to a two-vehicle crash in the area of 176 Street near 32 Avenue around 2:45 a.m.

Mounties say a Volkswagen Golf collided with a Hyundai sedan, noting both vehicles “were knocked from the roadway into a water-filled ditch.”

The driver of the Volkswagen was detained by officers on-site for impaired driving, and Mounties say he is prohibited from driving while the investigation is ongoing.

Investigators say both speed and alcohol are believed to be contributing factors in the crash.

“The Surrey RCMP Criminal Collision Investigation Team is actively working to gather crucial evidence and piece together what led to this tragic collision that has now claimed three lives,” Corp. Vanessa Munn said.

“Investigations of this nature are complex and can take time to complete, but our officers are committed to conducting a thorough investigation and providing the families who lost loved ones with answers about what transpired.”

Police are asking anyone with dash cam footage to call investigators at 604-599-0502 and quote file number: 2023-104042.
