No swimming at Kitsilano Point; Water quality advisory issued due to E. coli

Swimmers are being warned to not go in the water at Kitsilano Point as Vancouver Coastal Health says a water quality advisory has been issued due to the level of E. coli.

Swimmers are being warned to not go in the water at Kitsilano Point as Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) says a water quality advisory has been issued due to the level of E. coli.

The VCH says advisories are issued “when the level of bacteria exceed guidance levels and there is an increased risk of illness to swimmers.”

“The public is advised not to swim or wade in the water until the advisory is removed. Seniors, infants and children, and people with weakened immunity are the most susceptible,” it reads.

VCH says the increased level of E. coli, escherichia coli, “may increase the chances of gastrointestinal and skin/eye infection.”

If you think you may have been exposed to contaminated water, the VCH says to shower, and wash all clothing and towels that may also have been in contact with the water.

“If you start to feel sick, seek medical attention. Tell your doctor you may have been exposed to contaminated water, and contact your local health authority to report your illness,” the VCH says.

The health authority adds that going into the water should be avoided until it is lifted.
