Granville Island Brewing workers vote in favour of strike: union

Workers at Granville Island Brewing in Vancouver have voted in favour of strike action, the union has announced.

According to SEIU Local 2, talks with the employer broke down last month and workers are set to strike as soon as Saturday.

Affected employees include those in the retail store, in shipping and receiving, product stocking, and those selling merchandise. The union says most workers make around $20 per hour, which is lower than Vancouver’s living wage.

The union says wages are not keeping up with the cost of living, and some jobs that should be done by full-time employees are being done by temporary workers.

The last collective bargaining agreement between the two sides ended in May, and the union says negotiations stalled in early June on the issue of wages.
