Metro Vancouver could feel like 30 C this week

Things are going to heat up in Metro Vancouver this week, with some areas set to feel hotter than 30 C.

CityNews Meteorologist Carl Lam says it’s going to be another long stretch without any rain in the forecast.

“It is going to be a very hot and dry week across Metro Vancouver. We don’t have any rainfall in sight from today until next Sunday. And this is going to make things even drier than they already are across the region,” he said.

Lam says Tuesday and Wednesday are set to be the hottest days of the week.

“If you’re thinking it’s going to be a warm day today (Monday), it’s even hotter for Tuesday and Wednesday. We have daytime temperatures, even near the water, in the mid-20s,” he explained.

“Temperatures from downtown to eastward are getting up to about 30 degrees. So it’s going to be a very warm stretch. When you factor in the humidity, it’s going to be even hotter.”

This comes as some areas of B.C. are dealing with wildfires — some of which have been burning for nearly two months.

“Things are very, very dry around Metro Vancouver and especially for Vancouver Island, but the same could be said for the entire province, and especially where wildfires are burning right now,” Lam said.

According to the BC Wildfire Service, 107 fires are burning in the province as of Monday morning.

The agency has identified four “wildfires of note” in the Prince George Fire Centre. That includes the Donnie Creek fire that has been burning since May 14, which has already taken the title of the largest wildfire in the province’s history.

The wildfire season has already caused some significant issues in parts of the province.

On Vancouver Island, the communities of Tofino, Ucluelet, and Port Alberni were essentially cut off after a blaze led to the closure of Highway 4. The roadway has since reopened partially.
