B.C. brush fire reportedly sparked by gender reveal party

At a time when B.C.’s forests are tinder dry, it may not be such a good idea to hold a gender reveal party in the woods.

That appears to have been what led to a small brush fire in the province’s Interior over the weekend in the Jolly Creek area, near Mount Baldy.

A video shared on Facebook shows about a dozen people tending to a grassy patch with smoke billowing from it. The people are seen going up and down a hill, swatting at the flames in an attempt to extinguish them.

“Some idiot decided to use tannerite for a gender reveal party in the woods,” wrote Rob Iezzi, who posted the video.

“We were just down the road at Jolly lake (sic) when someone came along and told us about the fire and we all teamed up and got it out before it got too big.”

Tannerite is a brand of shooting target that creates a small explosion when hit. It is banned in B.C.

The video has racked up thousands of views and has been shared a handful of times since being posted on Sunday.

Many commenters are commending the people who stepped up to put out the fire. Others are questioning the actions of those in the apparent gender reveal party.
