Surrey fire sends one person to hospital

Fire crews in Surrey were tasked with knocking down a house fire in the city’s Fleetwood neighbourhood on Wednesday evening.

Surrey Fire Service Deputy Chief David Burns tells CityNews that crews responded to the fire just after 6:20 p.m. near the intersection of 165 Street and 88th Avenue.

Burns says two people were in the single-family home when crews arrived.

“[Crews] assisted one person out and they required medical attention,” he said. “That person was transported to hospital by BC ambulance and the other person was not injured.”

Five firetrucks and 19 firefighters tackled the fire, according to Burns, and he says no firefighters were injured while crews fought to contain the fire.

At this point, the condition of the injured person and the cause of the fire are both unknown.

Burns says a fire investigator has been asked to attend the scene.
