Surrey pedestrian critical after hit and run: RCMP

The Surrey RCMP is asking for the public’s help after a pedestrian was hit by the driver of a sedan early Saturday morning.

Mounties say just before 12:40 a.m., Surrey RCMP officers received reports that the pedestrian was hit on 128 Street, between 82 and 84 avenues.

Police say they learned a black sedan was driving north along 128 Street when it hit the man.

“The subsequent collision resulted in the vehicle sustaining obvious front end damage,” police said.

Mounties say the driver of the sedan took off after the crash, and was last seen continuing northbound.

The victim was taken to hospital in critical condition with life-threatening injuries, police say.

“The investigation is in the very early stages and police are on scene collecting CCTV footage and speaking to witnesses. Alcohol and speed have not been ruled out as contributing factors,” Mounties add.

Police are urging anyone with information, including dash cam footage of the area between 12:35 a.m. and 12:45 a.m., to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 and quote file number 2023-126345.
