GoFundMe set up for family of Uber driver who died in Vancouver crash

A GoFundMe has been set up to support the family of an Uber driver who was killed in a Vancouver crash that left seven others injured.

Police said Monday the crash happened early that morning, and a 17-year-old was arrested in connection with the incident. At the time, police added that a criminal investigation is underway.

Now the family has identified Dilpreet Singh as the 26-year-old victim and is asking for donations to help get him to his family back home.

On the fundraiser’s page, Singh’s elder sister, Harpreet Kaur, shared the news of his passing.

“It is with a heavy heart that we share this news of the sudden demise of our beloved Dilpreet Singh. Dilpreet was my younger brother. As many of you know Dilpreet held a special place in our lives and touched the heart of everyone,” the page reads.

Kaur goes on to say that Singh came to Canada in 2015, although she doesn’t specify from where.

“The family is in no stable condition to hold his funeral/rites as he was the only financial support for the family,” she wrote.

“The support will be used towards sending him to his loved ones back home.”

More than $70,800 has been raised as of Thursday morning, out of the $100,000 goal.

“Losing a loved one is never easy. Any contributions, no matter how small will make a difference and be greatly appreciated in the hardest of times.”
