The man who was stabbed and killed on Granville Street last week has been identified by Vancouver police.
According to the Vancouver Police Department (VPD), 32-year-old José Kaze was stabbed in the area of Granville and Smith streets just before 3:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 4.
The Surrey man was taken to the hospital but died of his injuries.
“We are still working to determine what the motive was for this murder,” said Const. Tania Visintin.
“Granville Street has a lot of vehicle, bike, and pedestrian traffic at all hours of the day. We believe there may be witnesses or people with video who have important information that could help us solve this crime.”
A GoFundMe page set up to support Kaze’s family says he was “a devoted father and an exceptionally hard-working man who lost his life due to a senseless act of violence.”
It goes on to say he was “always looking for ways to give back to the community and helped many people who were in time of need.”
“He was a caring and loving person whose smile would light up any room he entered,” the page continued.
According to organizers, Kaze was a father of five who came to Canada “in search of better opportunities for his future.”

The campaign, which aims to raise $30,000, is set to support Kaze’s family and cover funeral costs.
Meanwhile, the VPD says no one has been arrested in connection with Kaze’s death.
Investigators are looking for witnesses, as well as anyone with cell phone or dash-cam video of the area between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. Aug. 4 to contact them at 604-717-2500.
