Richmond green lights drinking in some parks

Richmond City Council is moving ahead with allowing alcohol in three of its public parks until the end of September as part of a pilot project modelled after other Metro Vancouver parks.

Until the end of September, people can say ‘cheers’ in Garry Point, Aberdeen Neighbourhood, and King George/Cambie Community parks.

Similar to regulations in parks in places like Port Coquitlam, North Vancouver, and Vancouver, drinking will only be allowed in so-called “liquor-permitted consumption zones.”

Many of these alcohol-friendly zones grew out of a desire by city councils across the Lower Mainland to help residents connect in a safe way during the COVID-19 pandemic.
