TransLink releases limited edition trolley keychain for Metro Vancouver transit riders

To commemorate 75 years of trolley buses in Metro Vancouver, TransLink is releasing a limited edition mini-trolley keychain to function like a compass card.

Five thousand keychains will be available to purchase at Waterfront Station starting at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, one thousand of which will be reserved for the concession category.

Kevin Quinn, TransLink’s chief executive, said when trolley buses were first introduced to replace street cars in the 1950s they “…revolutionized how people travelled around the region.”

“With rubber tires, instead of being constricted to rail, like street cars, trolley buses have endured. They’ve stood the test of time as exceptional zero-emissions vehicles,” Quinn said.

Those keen to brave the lineups for the cute collectible will be asked to pay a $6 refundable deposit. When tapped, the keychain’s headlights will reportedly light up to indicate a successful payment.

In the past, similar limited edition releases have sold out within hours, with some people lining up before sales even began.
