Hope fatal shooting, IHIT deployed

A man has died after a fatal shooting in Hope early Sunday morning, the Lower Mainland’s homicide team confirms.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) says the Upper Fraser Vallery Regional Detachment RCMP was called out to St. Elmo Road near Hunter Creek Road in the Ruby Creek neighbourhood just before 3 a.m. after reports of a shooting.

When they arrived Mounties found a 28-year-old man who was fatally shot.

IHIT says when officers arrived, they began speaking with witnesses and were able to identify a suspect. IHIT confirms the suspect has been arrested and “there is no ongoing risk to the public.”

“IHIT is thankful to the members of the Hope RCMP who responded quickly and were able to ensure the area was safe and secure,” said Sgt. Timothy Pierotti of IHIT. “We’re asking anyone with information about this incident to please contact IHIT immediately.”

Police say the investigators have identified the victim, and are now working to notify the family.

The homicide team is urging anyone with information to contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
