Metro Vancouver gas prices jump past $2/L again

Anyone looking to fill up in Metro Vancouver on Monday may be in for a bit of a shock at the pumps.

Gas prices have once again risen past $2 for a litre of regular in some parts of the region, according to the website GasBuddy, which tracks the price of gas stations by location all across Canada and the U.S.

West Vancouver and Tsawwassen are showing prices as high as $2.03, the tracking website says, but it is possible to find better deals as some stations in Vancouver are charging as low as $1.95.

Both the highest and the lowest prices in the area have been reported in Aldergrove, with one station showing a price per litre of almost $2.07 and another with a price as low as $1.92.

The top 10 cheapest stations range between $1.92 and $1.99.

Prices still remain lower than they did at the end of August when they reached as high as $2.14, the highest level in months.

At that time, Patrick De Haan, GasBuddy’s head of petroleum analysis, attributed that high price to an outage at a Los Angeles oil refinery. He said prices at or above $2/litre can be expected heading into the fall.
