Surrey, Delta hit and run charges laid after series of offences Saturday night

A 38-year-old man has been charged with multiple offences, Mounties say, after an alleged break and enter and multiple collisions in Surrey and neighbouring Delta on Saturday night.

The Surrey RCMP says the incidents began around 10:40 p.m., when officers got reports of a break-and-enter on 125 Street near 104 Avenue. Police say the suspect allegedly assaulted the person inside the home and sped away in a vehicle.

Police say the suspect and the victim know each other.

Mounties add that while officers patrolled the area in search of the suspect and his vehicle, the man returned to the area and allegedly struck multiple parked cars before speeding away again.

“At approximately 11:00 p.m., the suspect vehicle was involved in multiple collisions in Delta along Ladner Trunk Road. One vehicle flipped as a result of the collision and the three occupants were transported to hospital, one with serious life-threatening injuries,” Corp. Vanessa Munn said Monday.

Mounties confirm Delta police also responded to the incidents in their city.

Approximately half an hour after the initial incident, Mounties received reports that a vehicle was on fire on 128 Street, near 82 Avenue. When police arrived, they found the vehicle matching the description of the suspect’s car.

“The driver had fled the vehicle on foot and was arrested by police a short distance away,” Munn said.

Harinder Singh Sihota is charged with numerous offences including break and enter, three counts of assault, failure to stop, and dangerous operation of a conveyance. Police confirm he has been remanded in custody as the investigation continues.
