Vancouver Chinatown shopkeepers assaulted, man arrested

The Vancouver Police Department says a 50-year-old man has been charged with multiple offences after allegedly assaulting two shopkeepers in Vancouver’s Chinatown neighbourhood Friday.

The VPD says the victims, a married couple in their 70s, were working at their store when a man allegedly entered and “began causing a disturbance.”

“When they asked the suspect to leave, the victims were assaulted, suffering various injuries,” Sgt. Steve Addison said in a release.

Police say the suspect ran away, but police spotted him near East Pender Street and Main Street.

“The suspect was arrested and taken to jail,” Addison said.

Wayne Ronald Northy has been charged with one count of assault and one count of assault causing bodily harm.

Police say Northy has been remanded in custody.
