Northern lights dance above Metro Vancouver

Were you able to catch the northern lights dancing high above Metro Vancouver Monday night?

If not, don’t fret. CityNews Meteorologist Michael Kuss says there’ll be more chances to see them in all their glory later this week.

“[A] solar storm blasted off from the sun on the weekend and reached the Earth’s atmosphere just yesterday or really early this morning,” he explained.

Activity from the Aurora Borealis was “high” early Tuesday morning, Kuss explained, before the cloud cover rolled in.

“Now we are going to see clouds throughout the day today, and that will take us through until after midnight to another northern lights.

“The electrical activity in the atmosphere won’t be quite as dramatic tonight, but there’s still a possibility to see northern lights after midnight once the sky starts to clear tonight,” Kuss explained.

Aurora watchers captured stunning footage of the light show and posted it to social media.

While some went north of Metro Vancouver to Pitt Lake or Capilano Lake, others found that the aurora was visible even from Kitsilano Beach Monday night.
