Victim identified in fatal Richmond shooting

One person is dead after an alleged shooting in Richmond Sunday morning, near Cooney Road and Anderson Road, according to RCMP. Angela Bower spoke to a person on the scene who said they called 911 after hearing shots fired and cries for help.

Homicide investigators have revealed the identity of a man who was killed in a shooting in Richmond early Sunday morning.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) said Monday that 29-year-old “Jackie” Giang Giang Tran died of gunshot wounds at the scene near Cooney Road and Anderson Road.

Police say officers were called to the area just before 5 a.m. for reports of a shooting. Witnesses told CityNews the shots rang out around 4:30 a.m.

IHIT says it is releasing the victim’s identity with the hopes of advancing the investigation.

“Our members will be working with the Richmond RCMP over the next few days to canvass the area for witnesses and for CCTV,” said Sgt. Timothy Pierotti.

Investigators are asking anyone with information, or who was in the area of Anderson Road, Cooney Road, Eckersley Road and Park Road between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m. Sunday to contact IHIT at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
