Vancouver Chinatown stabbing suspect appears in court

The man accused of stabbing three people at the “Light Up! Chinatown” event in Vancouver earlier this month is due in court Wednesday.

Blair Evan Donnelly is charged with three counts of aggravated assault relating to the Sept. 10 incident.

Donnelly was out on an unsupervised day pass from the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital in Coquitlam when the three alleged stabbings happened.

Days later, we learned the 64-year-old had been deemed a “significant threat” by the BC Review Board panel.

In 2008, Donnelly was found not criminally responsible due to a mental disorder in the 2006 killing of his daughter. He was allowed unsupervised community visits from a Port Coquitlam institution three years later.

In 2009, the review board noted he stabbed another individual while on a day pass. In this case, he was found criminally responsible.
