Man charged after fatal Friday stabbing in New Westminster

A 57-year-old man is now facing a murder charge after New Westminster police say a woman was fatally stabbed on Friday evening.
Balvir Singh has been charged with one count of second-degree murder. He was the suspect intially taken into custody in connection with the death of 46-year-old Kulwant Kaur.
Both are residents of New Westminster.
Police responded to a call to Suzuki Street near Salter Street just after 5 p.m., where they found the 46-year-old woman suffering from life-threatening injuries. She died on-scene, despite life-saving efforts.
Singh was identified at the scene and taken into custody.
“This appears to be an isolated incident between family members,” says IHIT Sgt. Timothy Pierotti. “IHIT will continue to be in the area speaking to witnesses and processing the scene throughout the day. If you have information and have yet to speak with police, please contact IHIT immediately.”
