Christine Sinclair to end international career with 2 games in B.C.

Christine Sinclair will wrap up her international soccer career in her home province.

The Canadian Women’s National Team will be playing two games in B.C. in December against Australia, which will be Sinclair’s last for the red and white.

The two teams will first square off at Starlight Stadium in Langford on Dec. 1, then again four days later at BC Place in Vancouver on Dec. 5.

Sinclair announced last week she will retire from international competition at the end of the year, marking an end to a 23-year career. It came just over two years after the Burnaby native led Canada to gold at the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo.

“After Tokyo, deep down inside, I knew I didn’t want to play in Paris,” she told The Canadian Press last week, referencing the 2024 Games. “The way the Tokyo Olympics ended, you can’t beat it.

“I wanted to give it one more shot for the World Cup, just because I really thought we could be successful there and we hadn’t been successful in a long time at World Cups.”

The 40-year-old won’t be hanging up her cleats completely, as she’s said she plans to play one more season for the NWSL Portland Thorns next year.

Tickets for Sinclair’s final Canadian games will be available through pre-sale on Oct. 25, and then will be open to the public on Oct. 30.
