Homicide investigators have been called in after human remains were found inside a building following an explosion in Langley Sunday.
According to the Lower Mainland’s Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT), police responded to reports of an explosion at a rural property on 8 Avenue between Brown Road and 248 Street just after 2 p.m. Investigators say responding officers “located an outbuilding on fire” that was put out by firefighters at the rural property.

“It was a substantial explosion which left significant damage to the property,” Sgt. Timothy Pierotti with IHIT told CityNews.
Pierotti says human remains were found inside the outbuilding after firefighters knocked down the blaze. He adds it’s not clear if the victim died as a result of the explosion, but confirmed, “There was evidence to suggest the person was met with foul play.”
“We’ll be processing the scene as well as the human remains to determine exactly when the victim succumbed to their injuries,” he said.
Pierotti says IHIT will be working with the Langley RCMP’s Serious Crime Unit and Arson Unit as the investigation continues.
IHIT is asking anyone who was in that area of 8 Avenue between 12 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Sunday who may have dashcam footage to contact its information line at 1-877-551-4448 or email ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
