Shooting in Langley Starbucks drive thru leaves 1 critical: RCMP

One person is in critical condition after a brazen shooting in a Langley Starbucks drive thru Thursday morning.

The Langley RCMP confirmed to CityNews it was investigating after shots were fired shortly before 8:30 a.m. in the area of Fraser Highway and 216th Street.

“Our officers responded and located a victim suffering from gunshot wounds,” said Corp. Craig van Herk.

He says officers “initiated first aid” before BC Emergency Health Service arrived.

“This location is of concern for us, given that, at all times of the day, it’s very busy with foot traffic and vehicle traffic,” said van Herk, who added, “this is alarming and concerning to us.”

“This location, especially this time of day, is very busy. This part of the morning, especially, is a very busy time and is very concerning. We’ve got several members remaining at both scenes, looking into it, and following up,” he continued.

Investigators believe this was a targeted incident, though it is still being investigated. Van Herk says police don’t believe there is any ongoing risk to the public.

Shortly after responding to the shooting, Mounties received calls about a vehicle fire in the area of 68th and 229th.

“We believe that vehicle to have been related to the initial shooting,” van Herk said.

The identity of the victim is not clear at this time.

“The concerning part at 8:30 in the morning in that area … it’s frustrating because it shouldn’t be happening, period, but at that time of the day? That’s why we’re going to need some help with this one with witnesses and so on.”

Police are looking to speak with anyone with information about the shooting or car fire, as well as anyone who may have video of the areas from around the time of the incidents to contact the RCMP at 604-532-3200.
