Car crashes into Richmond restaurant, 1 critically injured

Mounties in Richmond say one person was hospitalized after a vehicle drove into a restaurant on Friday morning.

Images from the scene showed a Tesla crashed fully inside Chung Chun Rice Hot Dog at the corner of No. 3 Road and Westminster Highway.

Richmond RCMP Staff Sgt. Gurbir Mondair says the single-vehicle collision happened just after 11 a.m.

As he explains, the driver of the vehicle remained on scene with police while another person was brought to hospital — a person who BC Emergency Health Services say was in critical condition.

Mondair says the driver was later brought to a local hospital to be assessed.

The Richmond RCMP had all eastbound lanes at the intersection closed for much of the afternoon, reopening them to traffic just after 4 p.m.

Mondair tells CityNews the crash is still under investigation.
