Vancouver International Airport launching its first non-stop flight to Dubai

Vancouver travellers now have a new, non-stop option when flying to the United Arab Emirates.

Air Canada is launching the first non-stop Vancouver-to-Dubai service, with the inaugural flight taking off Saturday.

The new route from Vancouver International Airport (YVR) will also be Western Canada’s first non-stop service to the Emirates.

“Dubai is an exciting destination for non-stop service to YVR,” said Tamara Vrooman, president and CEO of the Vancouver Airport Authority.

“While exciting in its own right, this new Dubai service will also facilitate connections between Vancouver and the region, India, and East Africa. We are thrilled to welcome this new route and connect Western Canada with the United Arab Emirates for the benefit of our community and the economy that supports it.”

The airline will offer four flights a week between YVR and Dubai International Airport, on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Passengers will fly on a Boeing 787-9, YVR says, with a flight time of around 15 hours.

The airport says the new non-stop service will generate more than $30 million for the local economy and could create more than 60 full-time jobs in B.C.

A previous version of this article stated the flight from Vancouver to Dubai was direct. The article has been updated to reflect the fact that the flight will be non-stop, not direct.
