Delta police are asking for the public’s help identifying a suspect after they say fireworks were set off inside a public washroom.
According to the department, officers responded to reports of a fire in Annieville Park around 6:15 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5.
When they arrived, police say they discovered a blaze inside of a men’s washroom facility, likely caused by fireworks.
Damage to the building is estimated at $30,000, according to police. No injuries were reported.
Fireworks are only permitted in Delta if a valid permit is purchased 10 days before the anticipated fireworks event. The Delta Fire Department sells the permits for $200.
A Fireworks Safety Plan and letter from the homeowner providing permission to detonate the fireworks is also required.
Investigators say they’re looking to speak with anyone who was in or near the park at the time of the fire, or anyone who has information about the person responsible for it.
Police are also asking anyone who lives near the park and has CCTV cameras on their home to contact them at 604-946-4411 and quote file 2023-26007.
