Eastside Culture Crawl returns to Vancouver

The 27th annual Eastside Culture Crawl Visual Arts, Design, and Craft Festival returned to Vancouver on Thursday and continues through the weekend.

Artistic and Executive Director Esther Rausenberg says the event boasts more than 500 artists — its largest line-up since before the pandemic.

“It’s exciting to have as many artists back this year as we had pre-COVID times … about 60 of those artists are new artists,” she said. “There’s always new work with all of the artists who are participating, but it’s kind of equally interesting when you have 60 new artists because you’re not really sure what they’re going to be exhibiting.”

Rausenberg says the event will take place in 65 different buildings, most of them she says are within walking distance of each other.

“Hopefully we’re going to have great weather … you can pretty much walk around from one studio to another,” she said.

While the walking distance between studios and artist exhibits might encourage patrons to attempt checking out every single one, Rausenberg says it just isn’t possible.

“People have tried, we have challenged people. Nobody has been able to get to every single studio. It is, like, totally impossible,” she said.

Regardless, it might be fun to try.
