Boil water advisory issued for parts of Hope due to E. coli outbreak

The recent discovery of E. coli bacteria has led to an urgent boil water advisory for areas of Hope, according to the district.

As of Nov. 17, the District of Hope says the bacteria has been identified in the water supply for the area southwest of Kawkawa Lake.

It notes the advisory does not apply to Silver Creek, Lake of the Woods, East Kawkawa Lake and any private water systems.

The district says the water in the affected area is not potable and the boil water advisory will remain in place until otherwise stated.

“We anticipate resolving the problem as soon as reasonably possible,” the district states in a Facebook post.

Until then, the district is advising affected residents to boil or treat water before drinking, use bottled water, avoid bathing young children in a bathtub, store treated water in clean containers and do not rely upon Brita-type water filters to remove contaminants.
